After sitting through over six years of awful movies, never moving from my stance that Swept Away was the worst I'd seen in years, I changed my tune this week. You see, I saw Disaster Movie.
There had been many contenders, some unprofessionally made garbage, others completely misguided major studio fare, but neither Gigli nor Catwoman nor Pluto Nash nor Son of the Mask nor The Love Guru could reach the highest of lows.
There is something different about Disaster Movie, which appears to purposely avoid being funny or perhaps more accurately, appears to purposely choose to be unfunny. There's no story, no good performances, no imagination, just a downpour of bad celebrity impressions - all of which have to be introduced to the audience - and the occasional nod to a disaster movie, which never amounts to anything.
Finally, I had a new answer to the question, "What's the worst movie you've ever seen?

DVD Links: Release Dates | New Dvds | Reviews | RSS Feed Star Trek - The Complete Second Season (Remastered) It's a light week for DVD releases and that is a good thing since you all need to shell out some extra dollars for the second season of the original series of "Star Trek" as Paramount releases the remastered episodes in all their glory. I am a bit upset that I currently have the HD DVD/DVD edition of the first season and now I have to add the DVD only second season to my collection without any high definition just as I will in the recently announced third season of the remastered set when it hits in November. However, Paramount hasn't sent me the second season for review yet (and who knows if they will) so I can't comment on the set itself, but I do know if they don't send it

In general, I don't think Philip Roth novels transfer very well to the screen. Certainly, anyone who sat through Portnoy's Complaint had complaints of his or her own, and most recently, The Human Stain was spun from a Roth book, and that didn't end very well, either.
And while it's a risky proposition to put too much weight into a trailer, Elegy looks like an entirely different situation. It's based on the novel The Dying Animal, and even though Ben Kingsley has kind of been all over the road in the past few years (he's popped up in everything from Sexy Beast and The Wackness to Suspect Zero and The Love Guru), it appears that he's giving the kind of thoughtful, intelligent, weathered performances he can be so good at.
Penelope Cruz also looks up to snuff here, and she's usually not very good when she has to speak English.

Quentin Tarantino's Inglorious Bastards is quickly becoming the day-time-television version of Saving Private Ryan. First there was the news that Eli Roth would be in it. On film. Like, directly in the shot with lines and everything. Then, we got word that DiCaprio was out, B.J. Novak and Simon Pegg ...

Okay, now that I’ve gotten my anger at The Love Guru off my chest I can get down to reporting some movie news.
Mike Myers has joined the cast of Quentin Tarantino’s Inglorious Bastards. By Mike Myers I mean the actor and comedian - not the Halloween film character, although that would be cool.
Myers is the latest actor to be recruited by Tarantino following Brad Pitt, Eli Roth (when I mention Roth I use the word “actor” loosely) and B.J. Novak, while Simon Pegg and Nastassja Kinski are still in negotiations to join the WWII flick.
Don’t worry, Myers will Not be playing “Fat Bastard”. The voice of Shrek will portray General Ed Fenech; a British military commander.
I just have one question:
What is Tarnatino thinking ?
To be honest with you - I have no idea!
Myers’, Pegg’s and Novak’s casting would seem

Well, the casting has been anything but expected when it comes to Quentin Tarantino's next outing Inglorious Bastards and it doesn't look like that is going to change as Mike Myers has joined the cast. Yup, the Mike Myers that starred in Austin Powers 1, 2 and 3 and the same man that went on to make The Love Guru. Even though Tarantino.info reports he will have a "Small role" in the film it doesn't get me too excited. If Tarantino is casting Myers for a tongue-in-cheek bit cameo it seems it would be more productive to cast an unknown so as not to distract from the humor. I don't know, I can't judge and it seems I really need to read this script. Myers joins the cast headlined by Brad Pitt and also starring Eli Roth, B.J. Novak, Nastassja Kinski, Simon Pegg and David Krumholtz. Stay tuned as I am

How surprising is this? Mike Myers has signed on to star in Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming WWII drama “Inglorious Bastards,” according to Variety.
Myers is set to play British Gen. Ed Fenech, who is part of a plan to terminate a bunch of Nazi leaders.
Only last week, Brad Pitt officially joined the project, which is scheduled to head into production in Germany this October. Pitt plays Lt. Aldo Raine, leader of the Jewish resistance.
Also on board of the ultraviolent flick is Eli Roth, while Simon Pegg, B.J. Novack and several others are still in talks to join.
Aside from the surprise of Eli Roth taking in on the action in “Bastards,” I’ve been pretty happy with the cast announcements so far. But Myers? After the fiasco that was “The Love Guru,” all Myers deserves is a timeout.

I'm not even going to pretend I understand the logic on this one, but Quentin Tarantino has asked Mike Myers to join his Inglorious Bastards cast, according to Variety. Both men are coming off the worst-received films of their careers, Tarantino with Death Proof and Myers with The Love Guru, so suddenly it's like two acquired tastes that probably don't go all that well together.
Myers is the latest and the weirdest name on Qt's wish list for the epic World War II exploitation film. Brad Pitt is already in the cast, as is horror film director Eli Roth. On top of those names, the director hopes to land Simon Pegg, Nastassja Kinski, B.J. Novak from The Office and David Krumholtz, an actor you recognize anytime you see him, though you might not be able to place the name; he's currently on the CBS series Numbers.
Myers would play a

Short version: Tropic Thunder is crass, gross and rude - but it’s also funny as hell.
Screen Rant reviews Tropic Thunder
Can i make this any more clear?
Leave. The kids. At Home.
Ok, got it? Let’s move on.
For adults, and for further clarification: Adults that don’t mind rude, crass humor - Tropic Thunder is a Very funny movie.
One of the few problems with Tropic Thunder is that it starts out so damned funny that the rest of the movie has a hard time living up to those opening scenes. The film opens with a montage of clips that introduce the audience to the actors in the film. When I say “actors” I don’t mean Ben Stiller, Jack Black and Robert Downey Jr. - I mean the actors they portray in the film (in matching order to the previous list): Tugg Speedman, Jeff Portnoy and Kirk Lazarus.

Though he had performed onstage and on British television for more than 15 years, Ben Kingsley was a relative unknown when he won the leading role in Richard Attenborough's 1982 epic Gandhi, which swept the Oscars. Kingsley's Best Actor award didn't pay initial dividends, perhaps because he was identified too closely with the part, but when he earned a second Oscar nomination in 1991 for his role in Bugsy, his versatility was undeniable. Since then, he's offered up Oscar-nominated turns in Sexy Beast and House Of Sand And Fog, and memorable roles in Searching For Bobby Fischer, Dave, Death And The Maiden, and Schindler's List. He's been particularly prolific this summer, appearing in The Wackness; The Love Guru; War, Inc.; and Transsiberian. In the new film Elegy, based on Philip Roth's novel The Dying Animal, Kingsley stars as David Kepesh, an aging college professor and notorious lothario who launches a...

It pained me to say it at the time, but Paul Rudd - one of my favorite comedic actors and based on a couple of interviews I've done with him, one of the truly cool guys in the business - was in the worst movie of the year until The Love Guru came out. That movie is Over Her Dead Body. It's atrocious. I suppose the only comfort is Paul looks uncomfortable the whole time, as if he knows it's lousy. Since it was only bad and amateurish and stupid and not all of those things plus offensive the way The Love Guru was, it was elevated to the second worst movie of the year.
I'll excuse his walk-on in Forgetting Sarah Marshall from this discussion and get straight to the point: With Role Models, he appears to be back on track.
It's not often that a slacker comedy makes

Leave it to a spiritual guru like Deepak Chopra to help get to the real reason of why Mike Myers' first original comedy in years, The Love Guru, failed so miserably: it "needed more humor." Well surely you and I could have figured that out (and I haven't even read the Bhagavad Gita) but Chopra has a unique insight seeing that he's buddies with Myers and actually has a cameo in the movie. Chopra says that humor mixed with spirituality can work if done properly but "frankly...

America's Hindu leaders are asking Mike Myers to personally apologise for his portrayal of a comical spiritual leader in movie flop The Love Guru.
They want the funnyman to publicly apologise for "lampooning Hinduism" in the film.
In a statement released to WENN on Monday, Hindu leader Rajan Zed said that although the apology may not completely undo the damage done to the community, it might help "heal the wounds somewhat of a disturbed Hindu populace".
Zed, the president of Universal Society of Hinduism, says, "Ksama, or forgiveness, is one of the main virtues of Hindu ethics. If Mike Myers offers a genuine public apology, Hindus would not only absolve him but might also pray for his success in future movies."
Zed launched a protest movement against The Love Guru in March, urging all Hindus and other religious groups to boycott the film.
He claims that the failure of the film is largely down to his protest campaign.

Latest: Actor Verne Troyer's sex tape partner Ranae Shrider has fired back at the star after he accused her of abuse in a lawsuit filed on Thursday.
The aspiring actress was named in the $20 million (GBP10million) suit, which claims she intentionally inflicted emotional distress and battery upon Troyer - by releasing explicit footage of them together and beating him up.
But Shrider is refuting the claims.
Her spokesperson says in a statement: "This lawsuit is ridiculous and riddled with lie upon lie from Verne Troyer and his camp. It is in our opinion a transparent attempt to secure as much publicity as he can from his less than average career in the wake of his most recent failure in The Love Guru.
"The only abuse that ever occurred in their household was that of emotional abuse inflicted upon Ranae and her dog Lacy on the occasions when he hit Ranae and her dog with his 'reaching sticks' or kicked them when having one of his drunken rages.
"This alleged abuse certainly has not seemed to affect his recent round of interviews or his golf swing over the weekend. Is this not the same man who is renowned as a professional stuntman in all his movies?"
Shrider admitted to leaking a clip of the former couple's sex tape just in June.

After the failure that was “The Love Guru,” Mike Myers quickly needs a hit, and according to Deadline Hollywood Daily, he thinks he’s going to score one with a fourth “Austin Powers” movie.
According to an insider, Myers is already working on the script for the fourth installment of the series, which kicked off with “Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery” in 1997. Two films followed in ’99 and ‘02, and they each brought in more than $200 million domestically.
Apparently, this sequel will pay tribute to Myers’ father. That’s not exactly a treat, considering the film will largely focus on Austin’s villain Dr. Evil and his relationship with his son Scott Evil (played previously by Seth Green).
Over at Dhd, an insider told Nikki Finke, "It's very personal with a father and son theme loosely based on his own life.”
Another “Austin Powers”? No thanks. Especially not if Myers’ screenwriting

It really didn’t surprise me when I learned that Mike Myers and co-writer Mike McCullers were officially working on the script for a 4th Austin Powers movie. Why no surprise? Because, after a five year absence from live-action movies, in which he made two Shrek films, Myers returned with the big bomb: The Love Guru.
What else could Myers do, to regain his popularity? Wayne’s World 3? Nope, despite his and Garth’s (Dana Carvey) appearance at the 2008 MTV Movie Awards. It’s been 15 years since the crappy sequel (I saw both in the theater, when I was in high school: Part 1, yeah!; Part 2, bleh!).
So why not dust off Austin Powers and do the 4th film everyone was talking about in 2002, when Goldmember opened? Apparently, the film is going to focus on Dr. Evil’s relationship with his son. Again? Really? Didn’t they beat that dead horse into the ground?
