Say what you want about Nic Cage, the guy still gets some pretty high-profile gigs. Even after Wicker Man.
Case in point: The Hollywood Reporter says that Cage has joined the cast of director Matthew Vaughn's adaptation of Kick-Ass, the uber-violent Mark Millar comic.
Earlier in the week, it was revealed that McLovin would also be in the cast. Today, we're also learning that British kid actor Aaron Johnson will play the lead role in Kick-Ass, a high school nerd named Dave who wants to become a superhero despite his obvious lack of the requisite abilities and powers. Lyndsy Fonseca, who you may know as the daughter from How I Met Your Mother, will play Dave's love interest.
As for Cage, he'll play "a former cop who wants to bring down a druglord and has trained his daughter (11-year-old Chloe Moretz) to be a lethal weapon."

Last night in Pasadena stars came out to grace the red carpet and stage at the 2008 Alma Awards. Once again, Eva Longoria played host for the night and showed off a few costume changes like she did at last year's awards. Jessica Alba didn't have Cash with her to gaze lovingly like Eva and Tony, but she lit up the red carpet all the same continuing her smiley weekend. America Ferrera took home Entertainer of the Year while Shakira was named Humanitarian of the Year. Zac Efron and Ashley Tisdale were on hand to present a special achievement award to High School Musical 2 director Kenny Ortega. Some of our favorite shows like Ugly Betty, Scrubs, Lost, and How I Met Your Mother were also honored at the event, check out the full list of winners here. The show airs Sept. 12 on ABC. In the world of Quentin Tarantino, it's never safe to run with an assumption. That's the reason we didn't even bother reporting on the rumor that Qt wanted Leonardo DiCaprio for his upcoming war movie, Inglorious Bastards. Turns out, Leo won't be involved, so that saved us a cozy 30 minutes of writing. However, we did talk about the rumors that Brad Pitt would join the cast; apparently, they're still in negotiations, although I still have my doubts, based on Pitt's schedule and when Tarantino wants to shoot the film.
We do have Bastards casting news, though. It's been officially announced that torture porn director Eli Roth will play Sgt. Donnie Donowitz, a Jewish, bat swinging Nazi hunter. That should tie in nicely with Roth's obvious and untamed thirst for seeing blood in movies.
Now I get to ask a question you should never ask about a big, tough war movie

The creator of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" is talking about a sequel to his Internet sensation, "Dr. Horrible."
Joss Whedon, who created the three-episode Internet show with his brothers last year as a goof during the writers' strike, never anticipated the series would become so popular it could spawn a sequel.
The musical starred Neil Patrick Harris ("How I Met Your Mother") as an evil villain who is desperate to be accepted into a society of super villains.
Whedon says he's also planning a DVD next winter featuring new songs in the commentary,

'We Thought she [Hillary Clinton] would be a steadier hand as president than Sen. Barack Obama would be, with more hawkish instincts and greater political realism," write the National Review editors, explaining why some conservatives have been saying "nice things" about New York's senator.
Another statement from these natural heirs to William F. Buckley Jr. puts it like so: "This is a great country. Even a black man with no discernible accomplishments can become president."
According To the box office, nowa days we are all waiting to be rescued by superheroes and overdeveloped maestros of masculinity.

Network executives for U.S. sitcom How I Met Your Mother have slammed reports Britney Spears' guest role on their show saved it from being canned.
Spears was snubbed for her stint on the show earlier this month when she was left off the top 10 list of Emmy semifinalists in the Best Guest Actress in a Comedy Series category.
And though show ratings soared when the pop star played a ditzy secretary in two recent episodes, CBS bosses insist it wasn't Spears who saved the show.
Network entertainment president Nina Tassler explains: "It (How I Met Your Mother) was never in danger; we just took a while to make the announcement (of its renewal)."
Chiefs at Spears' record label Jive were rumoured to be questioning her dedication to her comeback album when reports surfaced on Friday the Toxic star was more interested in focusing on her acting career.
CBS heads have not confirmed Spears will be making another return to the show.

Britney Spears' acclaimed stint on U.S. sitcom How I Met Your Mother hasn't earned her an Emmy nod - she and Mary-Kate Olsen's guest TV spots won't be among those competing for gold.
Both stars have been left off the top 10 list of Emmy semifinalists in the Best Guest Actress in a Comedy Series category.
Instead, Sarah Silverman is a favourite for her part as an obsessed stalker in Monk, alongside Oscar nominee Amy Ryan for her star turn in The Office.
Others on the list include Carrie Fisher and Edie Falco for 30 Rock, and Polly Bergen and Shirley Knight for Desperate Housewives guest spots.
The awards will be handed out on 6 September.

Her next album may not be dropping any time soon, but Britney Spears is dipping her toes back into the music scene, filming a cameo for the new Pussycat Dolls video. "It's a small part," says a source about the popstar's visit to the L.A. set of the group's video shoot for their new single, When I Grow Up, on Wednesday. Possibly saving her trademark moves for her own album, Spears was not expected to dance or perform with the girls in the video. While her recent TV meetings (she was spotted exiting the Merv Griffin offices last week) were strictly exploratory,

Britney Spears was seen looking distraught during a break in the Los Angeles family court hearing with Kevin Federline on Tuesday – though later she smiled as she walked back to the courtroom with her mother. The singer appeared red-eyed and holding her lawyer's hand as she left the courtroom during the first of two breaks at the hearing in the couple's ongoing custody battle. Spears and her lawyers, as well as Federline and his attorney, convened to adjacent rooms outside of the courtroom during the break. "This has happened before and it's completely unpredictable," court spokesman Allan Parachini said of the recess.

Britney Spears will get more time with her sons during visitation, a court ruled Tuesday. "We are so pleased with Britney's progress, and we are appreciative of the court's recognition of this progress," Spears's parents, Jamie and Lynne Spears, said in statement after a hearing attended by the pop star and her ex-husband Kevin Federline. It was not clear how much more time Spears was granted. Federline's attorney characterized the court order as "an expansion of time." "It is a cautious step, but a step forward nonetheless," said lawyer Mark Vincent Kaplan. "We are seeing signs of [Britney's] progress, and consistency
