Synopsis for
"Samantha Who?"
The Birthday (2008)

Samantha and Todd are making out in the military history section of a bookstore. Sam pulls away, telling her former-beau-turned-sort-of-current-beau that he must dump Chloe.

"I'll do it today. I promise," says sweetie-pie Todd. "I want to be with you on your birthday."

"It's my birthday?" asks a delighted Samantha.

Back from the brief opening credits, Samantha tells Dena about plans for her birthday. Sweet Sam even puts her friend in charge of the guest list. Suddenly, Sam spots Todd and Chloe approaching. She hides under the table, scared of her unstable competition.

"Todd is breaking up with Chloe today!" exclaims Sam.

But surprise! Todd and Chloe begin making out in the middle of the street.

"And I'd say she's taking it very well," Sam deadpans.

Uh oh.

Back from a brief commercial break, Sam confronts Todd at his apartment.

"Just came by to see how the break up went," she says. "Because I was afraid she had trouble understanding you with your tongue in her mouth!"

Todd explains that he was going to dump Chloe, but her aunt is sick. Poor Todd he just didn't have the heart to do it.

Regina welcomes Andrea at the front door with her usual disdain for Sam's old friend. Andrea, returning the favor, says Sam's birthday will not be held in the sticks but at Andrea's apartment. The women get loud and Howard interrupts.

Surprisingly, he says having a party at Andrea's might not be a bad idea.

"A real city party like you see in the magazines!" Howard exclaims. Regina relents.

Back at the coffee shop, Dena explains that she called 21 people to come to Sam's party, but they all had jury duty. Sam accuses the good citizens of lying when ...

Flashback!

A sultry Sam and sloshed Andrea sit at the bar. Andrea complains that a man is about to break up with her. Evil Samantha tells Andrea to say that she has a cousin in the hospital on his deathbed. This way, the man won't have the heart to dump her.

Back to present day!

It is as if Samantha's seedy past is coming back to haunt her ... again!

"Sick aunt," she scoffs. "Chloe is lying! If I prove that, Todd will have no problem breaking up with her."

Ever the optimist, Dena puts Todd on the guest list.

Sam is at the hospital and asks about Chloe's "Aunt Wendy." Turns out there is a Gwendolyn. Sam visits the woman's room to find a picture of Chloe on her nightstand. Sam doesn't buy it, thinking this might be an evil Sam-like ruse.

An orderly enters and pulls the cover over the old woman. She is dead. Sam nudges the body -- making sure she's actually deceased -- when Chloe enters. Just then, another orderly enters pushing the REAL Aunt Gwen in a wheelchair.

"Congratulations!" Sam to Chloe. "Well, I'm off!"

Back at home, Sam is on the phone leaving a message for Brian. Sam says she DOESN'T want Todd to dump Chloe because her aunt is legitimately ill.

Just then: the doorbell. It's Chloe!

"I found your address when I was going through Todd's computer last week," explains Chloe. "Todd broke up with me and I really need a friend right now."

Chloe embraces Sam. Sam is shocked.

Back from a short commercial break, Sam is comforting Chloe. Howard enters, saying he can't go to the party looking like a hayseed. He is off to the Suit Farm.

Inside Andrea's apartment, Regina is cooking up a storm. Andrea comments that she didn't even know the appliances were real. Regina and Andrea are warming to each other. They both confess to buying the "100 holiday ideas" issue of Good Housekeeping.

Back home, Chloe is spilling the details of the breakup with Todd. She suspects that Todd is seeing someone.

"That's what he does," Chloe explains. "Not leave someone until he has someone else."

Sam nods ... that DOES sound familiar.

Back from a short commercial break, Regina passes out appetizers to Howard and Dena. Dena promises Andrea that other people are coming. Just then, Frank arrives.

"I'm going to want some wine," he deadpans.

Andrea says she knows 15 Euro-trash partiers that could be here in five minutes.

"Start dialing," says Dena.

Back at Todd's, Samantha asks if he was fooling around with Chloe before they had broken up. Todd, not a very good liar, tries to lie and fails miserably.

Todd reminds Sam that she slept with a French guy while they were dating. Samantha says that was "bad Sam" and that she no longer has anything to hide. Just then: Chloe comes home! Samantha and Todd hide in the closet.

Back at the party, the Euro-trash partiers have arrived.

Back in the closet, Sam accuses Todd of not being able to be alone. Chloe opens the close to find Sam.

"I was just getting some shoes for my birthday party," Sam says.

Chloe isn't buying it. Sam breaks down.

"I cant do this," she says. "I'm sorry. Chloe, Todd and I are together."

Chloe doesnt believe her, noting that Sam has done this before. Chloe goes to the closet on a lark, opens it and -- gulp! -- discovers Todd.

"I thought you were my friend," says an on-the-verge-of-tears Chloe. "You two deserve each other. Good luck."

Chloe storms out. Sam is confused.

"Are you saying you don't want us to be together?" asks Todd.

"Maybe if we were different people and we didn't know each other, we could have fresh start but were not," Sam says. "I'll always have stuff here, Todd."

Crying, Samantha leaves.

Back at the party, Sam celebrates a fresh start on her "first birthday." Todd enters, carrying balloons.

"Hi, my name is Todd," Todd says. "I usually don't do this, but here's my number. Call me sometime if you want to get together."

Todd hands Sam the balloons and leaves -- what a sweetie.

Sam, friends, family and Euro trash cut the cake.
